Adopt digital e-invoicing tax reforms, NRS advises businesses

The Nigeria Revenue Service has urged businesses in Kano to adopt digital e-invoicing and other tax reforms, saying the measures will improve transaction records, reduce disputes and make tax compliance simpler and more predictable.

The Service made the call on Thursday at the 2026 Kano Town Hall Meeting for Medium and Emerging Taxpayers held at the Fabs Event Centre, Kano, where business owners, taxpayers, professional bodies and private-sector representatives engaged officials on the reforms.

The Executive Chairman of the NRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, who was represented by the Group Director, Government Business, Wande Akinpelu, said the reforms were designed to change how taxpayers register, file returns, make payments, obtain support and interact with the Service.

Akinpelu said e-invoicing would improve the quality and accuracy of transaction information, reduce avoidable disputes and promote more efficient tax administration, while Rev360 was designed to simplify registration, filing, payment and other interactions with the revenue authority.

“The real test is whether it makes compliance easier for the taxpayer. It should reduce paperwork, save time, improve certainty, and make dealings with the Service more efficient,” he said.

He explained that the reforms went beyond introducing new laws and technology, stressing that the objective was to establish a tax system that was simpler to understand, more transparent and predictable for businesses.

“We want to explain what is changing, but just as importantly, we want to hear directly from you about what these changes mean for your businesses,” Akinpelu said.

He urged taxpayers to provide feedback on the implementation of the reforms, saying their experiences would help the Service identify difficulties, clarify areas of uncertainty and improve the system.

“We would rather hear those concerns directly and address them than assume from Abuja that everything is working as intended,” he said.

Akinpelu described Kano as an important commercial hub, saying its markets, industries and trading networks had continued to contribute significantly to the Nigerian economy.

He said the growth of medium and emerging businesses would create jobs, attract investment, expand markets and broaden the country’s tax base.

According to him, sustainable revenue growth should increasingly come from a growing economy and successful businesses rather than greater pressure on existing taxpayers.

He added that the Service would continue to prioritise taxpayer education, simplified processes, digital solutions and direct engagement with businesses.

Our correspondent reports that the NRS launched Rev360 on April 30, 2026, as its digital tax administration platform replacing TaxPro Max, as part of efforts to modernise tax administration, improve reporting and make interactions between taxpayers and the revenue authority more efficient.

Meanwhile, a taxpayer, Najashi Ismail Abdallah of Gerawa Group of Companies, said the company had experienced no major difficulty with the tax system and had migrated from TaxPro Max to Rev360.

“Everything is smooth. We always pay tax timely; the system is smooth and no challenges,” Abdallah said.

Also speaking, Danny Joshi, representing Aspira Nigeria Limited, said the company is committed to timely tax filing and payment, adding that businesses have roles to play in supporting Kano’s economic development through compliance.
