2027: Lagos APC deputy gov candidate pledges deeper grassroots ties

The Lagos State All Progressives Congress deputy governorship candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, has pledged to deepen engagement with grassroots groups ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sonayon-James made the commitment on Wednesday when she received a delegation from the GO Lagos Movement, a political group with structures across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas in the state.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the movement’s Director of Media, Bolu Oladokun, the APC deputy governorship candidate appreciated the group for its solidarity.

She said she “does not take their confidence and commitment for granted,” while reaffirming her readiness to work closely with the movement.

Sonayon-James said such collaboration was important to “strengthening grassroots engagement and galvanising support for the progressive agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.”

Earlier, the Director-General of the GO Lagos Movement, Ifeoluwa Omoniyi, said the delegation visited Sonayon-James because of its confidence in her “leadership capacity, integrity, grassroots engagement, and commitment to the youth ecosystem across Lagos State.”

Omoniyi said the movement was “strategically positioned to contribute intellectual, strategic, grassroots, and financial value towards the success of the progressive political agenda.”

He urged members and stakeholders across the 57 LGAs and LCDAs to “remain united, focused, and committed to the collective pursuit of a stronger and more prosperous Lagos State.”

The meeting also reaffirmed the group’s support for political continuity and the APC’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, including President Bola Tinubu at the federal level, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the Lagos governorship candidate, and Sonayon-James as his running mate.
