Falconets Arrive in Katowice As U-20 Women’s World Cup Beckons

Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets on Thursday, arrived in Katowice as preparations enter the final phase ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The Falconets departed their training base in Trzebnica on Thursday and arrived at the Novotel Katowice Centrum, where they will continue their preparations ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday.

The Nigerian side spent 10 days in Trzebnica, where Head Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew intensified work on the team’s tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and overall cohesion.

The training camp also gave the players an opportunity to acclimatise to the Polish environment and improve their match sharpness ahead of the global competition.

As part of their preparations, the Falconets played two international friendly matches against quality opposition.

Nigeria recorded an impressive 1-0 victory over hosts Poland last Friday, with Mary Mamudu scoring the decisive first-half goal.

The Falconets followed the result with a 1-1 draw against Korea Republic on Tuesday in their final warm-up game, with Mamudu again finding the back of the net.

The friendly matches provided the technical crew with an opportunity to assess the team against different styles of opposition while allowing the players to adapt further to the pace, intensity and conditions expected at the World Cup.

With the Trzebnica phase of preparations completed, the Falconets will now focus on their Group F opening encounter against Spain on Monday.

Nigeria has been drawn alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia in Group F.

After the clash with Spain, the Falconets will face China PR on September 10 before taking on New Caledonia on September 13.
