UK Appoints Vicky Seymour As New Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja

The United Kingdom Government has appointed Ms Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, taking over from Mrs Gill Lever OBE, who completed her diplomatic assignment in June 2026.
The UK High Commission announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday, saying Seymour had assumed office and would work to deepen bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
The announcement reads: “Join us in welcoming @VickySeymourUK, the new British Deputy High Commissioner to Abuja. We’re excited to have Vicky in Abuja as she begins this new chapter strengthening the #UKNGPartnership.”

According to the statement, Seymour’s responsibilities will include supporting cooperation between both countries in areas such as economic growth, security, migration, development, international partnerships and people-to-people relations.
The new Deputy High Commissioner brings more than two decades of experience in diplomacy, international development and government service.
Before her appointment to Nigeria, Seymour served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), a role she held from 2023.
She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
The statement noted that her diplomatic career has included senior leadership roles in African countries such as Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as assignments in Afghanistan.
Seymour has also worked on issues relating to climate change, security and economic development, while her early career in the not-for-profit sector focused on migration-related matters.
