Tinubu Sends Gbajabiamila To Canada For NIDEC 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a high-powered Federal Government delegation, led by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to represent Nigeria at the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment and Economic Conference (NIDEC 2026) in Toronto, Canada.
The conference, themed “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad,” will hold from August 12 to 15 and is aimed at promoting investment, trade and stronger economic ties between Nigeria and Canada.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the calibre of the Nigerian delegation underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation with Canada.
“The high-level government delegation to the conference showcases the President’s commitment to promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Canada,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
She added that the conference would serve as “a high-level, outcome-driven investment platform” and strengthen bilateral economic relations by connecting global investors and members of the Nigerian diaspora with investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The Nigerian delegation includes the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; and Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as well as governors of Anambra, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau and Zamfara states, alongside senior officials from key government agencies.
Canadian officials expected at the conference include the President of the Treasury Board of Canada, Shafqat Ali; Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Graham McGregor; Ontario lawmaker Deepak Anand; Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown; Brampton Councillor Rod Power; and Ontario Minister of Women and Economic Opportunities, Charmaine Williams.
NIDEC 2026 is being organised by NiDCOM in partnership with the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the Canadian High Commission in Abuja and other stakeholders.
Organisers say the conference will connect global investors with investment-ready opportunities in Nigeria’s priority sectors.
