Seven die, two injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

Seven persons were killed and two others injured in a multiple road crash involving three vehicles around Kara on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi.
The crash reportedly occurred at about 12:03 am and involved a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.
According to the statement, the nine victims involved in the crash were all male.
The FRSC said its Ibafo Outpost Command received the report at about 12:04 am and arrived at the scene five minutes later, at about 12:09 am.
The statement read in part, “Preliminary information indicates that nine persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two persons sustained injuries.”
The corps classified the incident as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, adding that a speed violation was identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
The deceased victims were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured were taken for medical treatment.
The FRSC said the crashed vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further necessary action.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speeding and maintain safe following distances.
Ogunjobi also advised motorists to exercise extra caution when driving at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road crashes.
He said, “Motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, should avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain vigilant at all times.”
The sector commander commiserated with the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
