Police In Adamawa Review Operations, Strengthen Security Ahead Ember Months, 2027 Elections

The Adamawa State Police Command has reviewed its security operations and directed enhanced security measures ahead of the ember months and the forthcoming 2027 electioneering period.

Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, gave the directive on Thursday, during a strategic review meeting with the command’s senior management team, area commanders, tactical commanders, divisional police officers, heads of departments and other senior officers.

The meeting assessed emerging security trends, operational effectiveness and measures required to sustain the peace and security being enjoyed across the state.

Hassan commended officers and men of the command for their dedication and commitment to duty, particularly in maintaining security within their respective areas of responsibility.

He charged them to remain professional, proactive and responsive to the security needs of residents, stressing the importance of effective community engagement in crime prevention.

On community policing, the commissioner directed divisional police officers to remain accessible and responsive to members of the public, while ensuring that official telephone numbers are prominently displayed at divisional headquarters and other public locations to facilitate prompt reporting of security concerns.

The commissioner of police also directed the command to intensify engagement with political stakeholders and youths ahead of the forthcoming elections.

He reiterated that the police remain apolitical and would provide a level playing field for all political actors while maintaining public order and protecting citizens throughout the electoral process.

On traffic management, Hassan directed officers to collaborate with relevant traffic agencies to enforce traffic regulations, particularly against reckless driving, overloading and obstruction.

He warned motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations to reduce road crashes and other incidents during the ember months.

The commissioner of police further ordered enhanced patrols, intelligence-led operations and visibility policing across strategic locations, including highways, markets, worship centres, recreational areas and other public places.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police through its designated communication channels.

The police also assured residents of Adamawa State of its commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and ensuring a safe and secure environment throughout the ember months and the forthcoming electioneering period.
