A Nigerian woman has come under fire on social media after reportedly opposing an office donation for a security guard’s wife, despite having previously benefited from a similar gesture from her colleagues.

According to a viral account shared online, the company’s Human Resources department proposed that staff contribute ₦20,000 each to support the gateman’s wife, with the amount to be deducted from employees’ next salaries.

However, the woman, who reportedly works in the company’s accounting department, objected to the proposal.

She was quoted as saying, “Why should we contribute ₦20,000 for a common gateman? He doesn’t even earn up to that amount as salary. I have a lot of expenses this month. Let’s just do ₦5,000 each.”

Her remarks quickly sparked criticism after it was revealed that she had previously received financial support from the same colleagues when she underwent surgery for appendicitis.

According to the post, none of the staff objected to contributing towards her medical expenses at the time.

The incident has since generated widespread debate online, with many social media users discussing empathy, workplace generosity, and the importance of supporting colleagues regardless of their job titles.
