The Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD) has congratulated Team Nigeria on its outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, describing the athletes’ achievements as a reflection of the country’s resilience, talent and sporting excellence.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Media and Publicity Committee, NAPHER-SD President, Professor Florence Bola Adeyanju speaking on behalf of the association’s National Executive Committee and members nationwide, commended the athletes for making the country proud on the international stage.

The association said Team Nigeria’s impressive medal-winning performances demonstrated the discipline, determination and competitive spirit that have continued to distinguish Nigerian athletes in global competitions.

According to NAPHER-SD, the team’s success has not only brought honour to the nation but has also inspired millions of young Nigerians to pursue excellence in sports.

The association also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to sports development through the provision of support, resources and policies aimed at creating an enabling environment for athletes to excel.

It noted that the Federal Government’s investment in sports has contributed significantly to the country’s strong performance while advancing youth development, national unity and sporting excellence.

NAPHER-SD further commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), particularly its Chairman and Director-General, for providing strategic direction and implementing reforms that have strengthened athlete development, sports administration and overall performance.

The association also praised the coaches, technical officials, sports administrators, medical personnel and other members of Team Nigeria for their professionalism, dedication and sacrifices, describing their collective efforts as instrumental to the country’s successful outing.

Reaffirming its commitment to the advancement of physical education and sports development, NAPHER-SD expressed confidence that ongoing reforms by the National Sports Commission would continue to produce world-class athletes capable of competing successfully on the global stage.

The association called on governments, educational institutions and other stakeholders to sustain investments in grassroots sports, school sports, coaching education, sports science and athlete welfare, stressing that these remain the foundation for long-term sporting success.

NAPHER-SD congratulated Team Nigeria, President Tinubu, the National Sports Commission and all Nigerians whose contributions supported the country’s achievement, expressing optimism that the nation would record even greater successes in future international competitions.
