The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has warned corps members against misconduct, urging them to abide by the NYSC by-laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria throughout their service year.

In a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations, NYSC, Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream Two Corps Members deployed to Kano and the Federal Capital Territory at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Karaye.

He cautioned that corps members whose actions damage the image of the NYSC or the country would face sanctions under the relevant provisions of the NYSC by-laws.

“You are expected to become brand ambassadors, representing the NYSC, your families, and the institutions you graduated from,” he said.

The NYSC boss also urged the corps members to apply the knowledge acquired from their education towards solving problems and contributing meaningfully to national development.

Nafiu advised them to make productive use of their time during the service year by acquiring skills that would improve their personal and professional development.

“Don’t waste your time. Upskill yourselves, find out those skills that are essential in line with your course of study and acquire them,” he said.

He also encouraged the corps members to use social media responsibly and promote content that reflects the positive values of their host communities and the NYSC.

“Promote positive contents that can promote the culture and values of your host communities and the Scheme,” he added.

Nafiu further advised corps members to seek approval from their NYSC State Coordinator before travelling outside their state of service.

He specifically warned those intending to travel outside Nigeria that such movement requires approval from the NYSC Director General.

“For those who may have reason to travel out of Nigeria during the service year, the law says you must obtain permission from the NYSC Director General,” he said.

The Director General wished the corps members a successful orientation course and an impactful service year, while urging them to conduct themselves responsibly throughout their deployment.

In her orientation camp situation report, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar, said 2,428 corps members had been registered in the state, comprising 1,024 males and 1,404 females.

She said the corps members had demonstrated loyalty and dedication while adapting to the regimented camp environment, adding that teamwork among officials had contributed to effective service delivery.
