The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have begun discussions on a stronger partnership aimed at attracting investments into the country’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by the NGF to the Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, where both sides explored ways to deepen collaboration between the Federal Government and states.

According to the NMDPRA, the engagement focused on developing a structured framework that would unlock investment opportunities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Key areas identified for collaboration include gas-to-power projects, the expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for transportation, increased adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), clean cooking initiatives, embedded power generation, and other strategic interventions designed to enhance energy access and drive economic growth.
The authority said the proposed partnership is expected to accelerate investments in critical energy infrastructure while supporting the Federal Government’s drive to expand gas utilisation, improve energy security, and promote sustainable development nationwide.
