The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, has called for stronger intelligence-led collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies to combat fraud, money laundering, illicit financing and other organised financial crimes.
Bakari made the call in Abuja during the induction of 100 newly trained Anti-Fraud Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

She said no single agency could effectively tackle the evolving threat of financial crime as criminal networks increasingly exploit technology, digital payments and virtual assets.
“As criminals increasingly exploit technology, digital payments and virtual assets, no single agency can tackle these threats alone,” she said.
Bakari stressed the need for closer cooperation among security agencies, urging them to prioritise intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and continuous capacity building.
“Timely intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and continuous capacity building among law enforcement and security agencies are critical to combating fraud, money laundering, illicit financing and other organised financial crimes,” she added.
She also reaffirmed the NFIU’s commitment to supporting the NSCDC through financial intelligence, joint training initiatives and stronger institutional collaboration.
“The NFIU remains committed to supporting the NSCDC through financial intelligence, joint training initiatives and strengthened collaboration in protecting Nigeria’s financial system and national security,” Bakari said.
