Momodu Assumes Office as Edo Communication, Digital Economy Commissioner

BENIN CITY — The newly appointed Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Digital Economy, Hon. Andrew Momodu, has assumed office with a pledge to strengthen the state government’s digital transformation drive and consolidate the achievements of the ministry.
Momodu, who was recently redeployed by Gov. Monday Okpebholo from the Ministry of Oil and Gas, made the pledge during his maiden interaction with the management and staff of the ministry in Benin City.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Jennifer E. N. Aisuan, formally introduced the commissioner to the workforce and expressed confidence in his experience and leadership capacity to advance the ministry’s mandate.
Addressing the staff, Momodu pledged to support the policies and programmes of the Okpebholo administration, particularly its efforts to leverage technology and digital innovation to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and promote sustainable development.
He described the ministry as a critical driver of the state’s digital transformation agenda, stressing that teamwork, collaboration and institutional continuity would be essential to achieving its objectives.
According to him, the ministry has a workforce with the competence, experience and institutional knowledge required to deliver on its mandate.
He said his leadership would therefore work with the existing workforce to consolidate gains already recorded while identifying new opportunities for innovation and growth.
Momodu also identified effective communication and public enlightenment as critical to ensuring that residents understand and benefit from the government’s digital initiatives.
He said that as the government expands its Edo Cloud 0.2 programmes and other technology-driven services, information on such initiatives must be communicated through clear and accessible channels.
The commissioner pledged to strengthen the ministry’s information dissemination mechanisms, particularly its digital and social media platforms, to ensure wider public awareness of government policies, programmes and achievements.
Momodu said he would also bring the experience and knowledge acquired during his previous assignment at the Ministry of Oil and Gas to bear on his new responsibilities.
On existing projects, he assured the management and staff that ongoing programmes would not be discarded, but would be reviewed, strengthened and expanded where necessary.
He said the ministry would focus on deepening digital transformation, promoting innovation and technology-driven governance, as well as identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery across the state.
The commissioner called on the management and staff to demonstrate professionalism, commitment and a shared sense of purpose in implementing the ministry’s programmes.
Momodu expressed optimism that sustained collaboration among the ministry’s leadership and workforce would strengthen its role in building a digitally connected, innovative and efficient Edo State.
