Manchester City came from a goal down to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, handing new manager Enzo Maresca a winning start to his Premier League campaign.
Bournemouth stunned the hosts in the 26th minute when Marcus Tavernier capitalised on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. City dominated possession and created several opportunities but struggled to find a way past Bournemouth’s organised defence.

The hosts continued to press after the break, with Maresca turning to his bench as City searched for an equaliser. The pressure finally paid off in the 84th minute when Marc Guéhi headed home from a Rayan Cherki corner to level the contest.
City then completed the turnaround in stoppage time. Joško Gvardiol struck in the 90th minute to send the Etihad into celebration and seal a 2-1 victory.
The comeback capped a dramatic opening-day win for Maresca, who had been under early pressure following City’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.
City finished the match with 66 per cent possession and 13 shots, including six on target, underlining their dominance despite falling behind. Bournemouth managed five shots, four of which were on target.
Guéhi and Gvardiol’s late goals ensured City avoided an opening-day setback and began the new Premier League era on a winning note.
