Man In Court For Attempting To Sell 18-Year-Old Niece For ₦7m In Adamawa

A man, Andrawus James has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, for attempting to sell his 18-year-old niece for ₦7 million.

The defendant was accused of abducting the teenager, identified as Fatima, after allegedly luring her with a promise of helping her secure a job in Abuja.

According to the prosecution, James allegedly took the young woman to Ganye, where he was said to have contacted a prospective buyer in connection with the alleged transaction.

However, the alleged buyer reportedly alerted security operatives, leading to the arrest of the defendant before the purported deal could be completed.

James, a resident of Dai Village in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was subsequently charged with offences bordering on abduction, human trafficking and the alleged buying or selling of persons for immoral purposes.

He reportedly pleaded guilty after the charges were read and interpreted to him in court.

The Chief Magistrate Court ordered his remand in a correctional facility and adjourned the matter pending legal advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

The case is expected to continue after the legal advice is received, with further proceedings to determine the issues arising from the charges against the defendant.
