The Kano State Government has handed over the School of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development in Rano to the Steering Committee overseeing the establishment of the proposed Federal Polytechnic in the area.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this on Friday during the handover ceremony, where he met members of the committee and inspected facilities earmarked for the institution.
Yusuf assured the committee that the state government would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful establishment and prompt take-off of the Polytechnic.
“The Kano State Government will provide the necessary support to facilitate the successful establishment and prompt take-off of the institution,” the governor said.
He stressed the importance of technical education and skills development in preparing young people for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
The governor also said the state would upgrade facilities and improve the learning environment at the school’s new location in Sumaila Local Government Area.
“We will upgrade the facilities and improve the learning environment to enhance effective teaching and learning,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Kawu Sumaila and Rt Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum for their contributions towards actualising the Polytechnic.
He also commended members of the Steering Committee for their commitment and sustained efforts towards moving the project closer to realisation.
Senator Kawu Sumaila and Rt Hon Kabiru Alhassan Rurum separately thanked President Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Polytechnic and Governor Yusuf for providing the necessary support.
They said the institution would expand access to technical education, promote skills acquisition and create opportunities for young people in Kano State and beyond.
A member of the Steering Committee, Senator UK Umar, meanwhile, called for additional hectares of land to accommodate future expansion and provide space for academic and supporting infrastructure.
