The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Chris Imumolen, has raised concerns over his personal safety and that of members of his family, appealing to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to caution his associates and supporters against intimidation, harassment, threats or violence.

Imumolen, in a statement, said he had been alerted to developments and circumstances that had caused him “serious concern” about his safety and that of people associated with him.

He appealed to Adeleke to use his influence to ensure that his political associates and followers refrain from any action that could endanger him or anyone connected to him.

“I seek no confrontation with Governor Adeleke or anyone else,” Imumolen said, stressing that his appeal was made in the spirit of peace and responsibility.

The factional Accord Party chairman said he was not an indigene of Osun State and that his interest in the state was principally linked to his commitment to the development of the party, protection of its political interests and promotion of democratic values.

He said his political views and interventions should not be interpreted as a personal declaration of war against anyone.

According to him, he has a legitimate right as a Nigerian to express his political opinions and participate in democratic activities without fear or intimidation.

Imumolen also clarified that he had not authorised anyone to engage in violence, threats or confrontation on his behalf.

“I believe political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue, democratic processes and the rule of law,” he said.

He said he was making the statement publicly as a precautionary measure in view of the concerns that had arisen.

Imumolen further called on security and law-enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate, transparent and independent investigation if any harm came to him, his family or anyone directly associated with him.

He stressed that he was not accusing any individual of responsibility for any future incident.

“Rather, I am making this appeal because I believe that no political disagreement should ever become a justification for intimidation, violence or the endangerment of human life,” he said.

He urged Adeleke, his supporters and other political actors in Osun State to embrace peace, restraint and democratic engagement.

“I seek no war. I seek only justice, fairness, peace and the freedom to pursue the development of Accord without intimidation or fear,” Imumolen said.
