‘I Bought N50m Form’ – Ogun Aspirant Tackles APC Over Suspension

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Abayomi Hunye, has challenged the party’s decision to suspend him after accepting N50 million from him for its governorship nomination forms.

Hunye made the assertion on Tuesday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, amid an escalating dispute over who is recognised as the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

The APC had disowned Hunye and accused him of impersonating its governorship candidate, while reaffirming Senator Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, as its recognised candidate for the election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the party also petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, urging the police to investigate and prosecute Hunye over his alleged public claims to the party’s ticket.

But Hunye rejected the allegations, insisting that he participated in the party’s nomination process and was duly screened as an aspirant.

According to him, the APC’s claim that he was suspended on April 7, 2026, was inconsistent with the party’s subsequent decision to sell nomination documents to him.

“The first thing they said was that I had been suspended. They said I was suspended on April 7. How can you suspend me on April 7 and, on April 28, collect money from me and give me a form?” Hunye asked.

He said he paid N50 million for the nomination form and also obtained the expression of interest form before completing and submitting the required documentation.

“I got the nomination form and the expression of interest form. I filled everything and returned it. I have the receipt,” he said.

Hunye further claimed that he successfully passed the party’s screening exercise, saying his name appeared on the screening list as number 52.

He also maintained that he was recognised as a valid candidate during the APC governorship primary held on May 21.

The dispute follows the APC’s petition against Hunye, signed by its Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, and submitted to the police in Abuja.

Olajolo accused Hunye of using print and social media platforms to allegedly portray himself as the party’s governorship candidate, describing the development as a threat to public peace and electoral integrity.

He said Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7 following a petition from his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, with the Ogun State Working Committee subsequently ratifying the suspension and communicating it to the party’s national headquarters.

According to the party, the suspension was linked to allegations of anti-party activities and conduct allegedly capable of creating disaffection among its members.

The APC insisted that it conducted a valid governorship primary and that the party’s recognised candidates in Ogun are Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as governorship and deputy governorship candidates respectively.

The party consequently urged the police to investigate Hunye’s activities and stop him from allegedly parading himself as its candidate, warning that the dispute could mislead voters and contribute to a breakdown of law and order.

Recall that Hunye had recently unveiled Abayomi Odunowo as his deputy governorship candidate for the election. During the unveiling, he said, “I am still in the race. We are in court. And I am believing God that at the end of the day, victory is His. I have decided to keep quiet before. But two reasons I changed my mind.”
