Governor Adeleke Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot To Disrupt Collation

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to disrupt the ongoing governorship election in the state, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying a police officer from Port Harcourt, Rivers State to interfere with the electoral process.

Adeleke made the allegation shortly after casting his vote at Unit 009, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

The governor called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu the state commissioner of police, the deputy inspector-general of police overseeing the election and other security agencies to closely monitor the activities of the alleged officer and prevent any attempt to disrupt the election.

Adeleke said: “It’s going well and I hope it continues like that, but I got some information from my people in Osun State. There is one police officer called London from Port Harcourt. They brought him to come and disorganise the vote.

“So, I am calling on the inspector-general of police and all the security agents to watch out and be on the lookout.”

The governor further alleged that the APC brought the officer into the state as part of an attempt to interfere with the election, particularly in his hometown of Ede.

According to him, there was also an alleged plan to bypass the established collation process by moving results directly to the collation centre instead of following the prescribed process from polling units to wards and then local government areas.

“The APC in Osun brought him to come and destroy my town. The police commissioner, the DIG overseeing the election should take note, and all my people in Ede should watch out.

“I have it on authority of information that they don’t want to go through the normal process from units to wards and to local government. They just want to take it all the way to the collation centre, and that is not acceptable.

“They must follow the rules. That’s why I am alerting my people to watch out, and I know, by the special grace of God, that I am winning this election,” he alleged.

Adeleke’s allegation comes amid heightened political tension surrounding the governorship election, with parties and stakeholders expressing concerns over the security situation and the conduct of the electoral process.

The governor urged residents of Ede and other voters to remain vigilant while calling on security agencies to ensure that voters, electoral officials and party agents are allowed to carry out their duties without intimidation or interference.

He also insisted that election results must be collated in accordance with the established procedures, warning against any attempt to circumvent the process.

Despite his concerns, Adeleke expressed confidence in his chances of securing victory in the election.

The Osun governorship election is being held across the state on Saturday, with voters choosing between the major political parties amid intense competition and heightened political activity.
