Fire destroys goods, property in six lock-up shops in Ibadan 

Goods and household items worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire incident that destroyrd six shops in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. 

DAILY POST reports that the fire outbreak, which occured at Oyinkansola Hameed Street, Monatan area of Ibadan, started in the early hours of Monday. 

It was learnt that six shops out of 34 shops were affected but no casualty was recorded.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.

He explained that the fire was reported around 2.20 am and that the suspected cause was an electrical surge. 

He said, “Upon arrival, the crew discovered that six (6) out of thirty-four (34) lock-up shops had been affected by the fire. 

“The firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and other nearby properties.

“The suspected cause of the fire was an electrical power surge (electricity upsurge).”
