The Federal Government has inaugurated the 2026 National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) to strengthen coordination and improve emergency response as Nigeria enters a period of heightened flood risk.
The inauguration marks the activation of the centre as a strategic platform for multi-agency coordination, information sharing and resource mobilisation to ensure faster and more effective responses to disasters and other emergencies nationwide.

The NEOC is expected to bring together the expertise, capacities and mandates of relevant government agencies and stakeholders to improve collaboration in managing emergencies.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting, officials stressed the need for a coordinated national emergency management system to address the increasing threat of flooding and other natural and human-induced disasters.
“This period of heightened flood risk, together with other natural and human-induced hazards, demands that we strive to achieve a coordinated national emergency management system across the country,” the statement said.
The government added that stronger collaboration among agencies would help reduce the impact of disasters on communities and enhance Nigeria’s resilience to future emergencies.
“Working together, united in purpose, we can significantly reduce the impact of disasters on our communities and strengthen Nigeria’s resilience to future emergencies,” it added.
