Beyond the continental crown, Iwerima believes the triumph would signal the start of a highly productive period for Nigeria’s young beach volleyball players, particularly with the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games approaching.
“We hope that this will translate to winning more laurels for Nigeria, even as we prepare for the Youth Olympics in Senegal,” he said.
The tournament in Saly was staged at a venue expected to host the beach volleyball events of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, giving the Nigerian players valuable exposure to the conditions and environment they could encounter at the global youth competition.
Their emphatic victory over Senegal not only earned Nigeria the African Development Cup title but also provided a significant boost to the players’ confidence ahead of the Youth Olympic Games.
With the continental trophy safely secured, Iwerima and his charges will now look to build on their success as they continue preparations for Dakar 2026, with hopes of further enhancing Nigeria’s standing in international beach volleyball.
