61.5% Candidates Obtained Minimum Requirement For University Admission – WAEC

WAEC has announced that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

 

Announcing the results in Lagos, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, said the performance reflects the outcome of the second computer-based examination conducted for school candidates between 24 April and 19 June 2026.

 

A further breakdown of the results shows that 1,808,089 candidates, representing 92.69 per cent, obtained credit and above in English Language, while 1,733,533 candidates, or 88.87 per cent, secured credit and above in Mathematics.

 

WAEC also disclosed that the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of those who sat the examination, have been withheld over alleged examination malpractice and are undergoing investigation.

The Council said the 2026 examination featured a number of technological innovations, including the Digital Examiner Marking System to accelerate result processing, the serialisation of question papers to reduce examination malpractice, and a new platform that enables candidates to generate e-PINs directly to access their results.


WAEC maintained that the transition to computer-based testing is aimed at improving the credibility, security and efficiency of its examinations while enhancing the overall assessment process.
