Provision Of Infrastructure For Judiciary Is Not Interference – Tinubu Replies Critics
President Bola Tinubu on Monday addressed claims that his administration is interfering with the judiciary.
The President explained that his provision of infrastructure for the judiciary does not interfere in their responsibility.
NEWSNGR reports Tinubu stated this at the commissioning of the annex office of the Body of Benchers in Abuja.
Represented by by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, the President asserted his administration simply aims to ensure that who interpret and uphold the laws of the country are provided with an environment that fosters operational decency and excellence.
He said: “It’s with profound honour and a great sense of national purpose that I stand before you today to officially commission the state of the art office annex of the Body of Benchers in our nation’s capital.
“Today’s ceremony is not merely a celebration of a beautiful edifice crafted with architectural excellence, it’s a resounding affirmation of our administration’s commitment to the rule of law, the independence of our institution, and the dignity of the Nigerian legal profession.
“When we took that oath of office, we promised Nigerians renewed hope and we made it clear that democracy cannot thrive in a vacuum, it required a strong resilient and well equipped institution to anchor it.
“The body of Benchers as a gatekeeper to the legal profession charged with the critical responsibility of admitting eligible candidates to the bar and maintaining the highest standards of discipline stands at the very highest of this institutional framework.
“It’s only fitting that an institution of such monumental national significance, housed in an edifice that reflects its prestige, responsibility, and dignity.
“Let me be absolutely clear that the provision of infrastructure for the legal community and the judiciary is not an interference in the independence of another arm of government, rather it’s a constitutional and a collaborative duty to ensure that those who interprete and uphold our laws are provided with an environment that fosters operational decency and excellence.
“In the same vein, the commitment to supporting the legal ego-system remains holistic and not stopping this magnificent annex.”
