Police Arrest Three NSCDC Officers Over Senior Colleague’s Death, Trace Over ₦2bn to Suspect’s Bank Account

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three officers attached to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Mining Marshals unit in connection with the death of Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Agada Levi Agada during an operation in Nasarawa State.

The officers identified as Simeon Yakubu Anyebe, Ibrahim Ayefu and ASC Iwodi Obochi were taken into custody following an investigation launched by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) after the deceased’s family petitioned authorities over conflicting reports surrounding the incident.

According to the petition, one account claimed the team came under attack from bandits, while another indicated that Agada was the only casualty and that other officers involved were detained. Medical findings referenced by the family reportedly suggested the fatal gunshot came from the firearm of another NSCDC officer.

Police sources also disclosed that investigators traced more than ₦2 billion through a bank account linked to one of the Mining Marshals officers. Authorities are now working to determine the source of the transactions and whether they are connected to other persons under investigation.

Investigators said several members of the Mining Marshals unit were invited for questioning but failed to appear. The three arrested officers were reportedly apprehended at a correctional facility while attempting to visit a suspect already remanded in connection with the case.

The family of the late officer has demanded a thorough and independent investigation, alleging possible criminal conspiracy, unlawful killing and attempts to conceal the true circumstances surrounding his death.

They also raised concerns over the continued withholding of Agada’s mobile phones and what they described as inconsistencies in information provided by officials after the incident.

Police say investigations are ongoing and have urged the NSCDC leadership to make other officers of interest available for questioning.
