Ogun ADC Rejects Ogundipe, Endorses Another Governorship Candidate
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has dismissed claims that Dr Biodun Collins Ogundipe is the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, insisting that Hon. Jimi Lawal remains its recognised flagbearer.
NEWSNGR reports that the party also asked Ogundipe to stop presenting himself as its governorship candidate, saying no primary election was conducted to produce him.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the party’s Secretary, Olusoji Agbebiyi, said the state leadership was unaware of any process that produced Ogundipe as the ADC governorship candidate.
He alleged that Ogundipe was being sponsored by unnamed individuals to destabilise the party and weaken its preparations for the 2027 general election.
Agbebiyi maintained that the party had not endorsed Ogundipe and warned against attempts to mislead members of the public.
“We did not pick Ogundipe as our governorship candidate. He is only parading himself as the governorship candidate,” he said.
“The ADC in Ogun State does not recognise Ogundipe as the governorship candidate of our party. He is not our candidate. Hon. Jimi Lawal is the rightful governorship candidate.”
The party secretary further alleged that Ogundipe was being used by certain interests to create confusion within the party.
“Ogundipe is being used by some elements to disrupt the ADC in Ogun State. He is not our candidate, and he is not fit to contest the governorship election on the platform of our party,” Agbebiyi added.
Reacting to reports of an internal crisis within the party, Agbebiyi dismissed claims that the Ogun State chapter of the ADC had split into factions.
He insisted that the party remained united and was focused on strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There is no faction in Ogun State. The Ogun ADC remains one because all the state executive members are together, and we have our secretariat at Itoko,” he said.
“My message to our supporters is to remain patient. Very soon, we will resolve all issues within our party.”
Agbebiyi expressed confidence that the party would overcome its internal challenges and remain competitive in the 2027 general election.
