NDC Fires Back at Ganduje Over Criticism of Obi–Kwankwaso Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed comments by former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who questioned the ability of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to challenge the incumbent administration in the 2027 presidential election.
Responding in an interview with The Punch, the NDC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, described Ganduje’s remarks as inconsequential, arguing that the former Kano governor has lost political relevance in the state.
Abdulsalam also defended Kwankwaso’s political standing, noting that Ganduje once served as Kwankwaso’s deputy governor in Kano State. He argued that Ganduje owed much of his political rise to Kwankwaso and suggested that it was unreasonable for him to claim greater political wisdom or influence than his former principal.
On the proposed Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, the NDC spokesperson said Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election demonstrated his nationwide appeal. He expressed confidence that, given the country’s current challenges, Obi would attract even greater support—particularly in Northern Nigeria—in the 2027 election.
Abdulsalam further maintained that the NDC would rely on its political strategy and grassroots organisation rather than engage in a war of words with Ganduje, expressing confidence that the party would perform strongly in Kano State.
The exchange reflects the growing political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and their representatives increasingly trading claims over electoral strength and leadership credentials.
