My Past Criticism of Tinubu No Longer Relevant, Says Bwala

Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has said his previous criticisms of President Bola Tinubu should no longer be the focus of public debate, describing them as “baseless” in light of current realities while insisting they were not false.

Bwala made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he responded to repeated questions about comments he made against Tinubu before joining the current administration.

Expressing frustration over the recurring topic, Bwala questioned why attention was still being placed on his past remarks instead of pressing national issues.

“The first person who started asking me this question was you, and you’ve asked it more than five times. Aren’t you tired? Those comments are completely inconsequential to what is happening today,” he said.

He argued that discussions should instead focus on issues affecting Nigerians, including the economy, education, security, and governance. Bwala also referenced a reported letter from former U.S. President Donald Trump commending Tinubu’s security efforts, saying such matters deserved greater attention.

Defending the Tinubu administration, Bwala said the government had recorded significant achievements, particularly in strengthening collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies.

“We have made substantial progress. For the first time in Nigeria’s history, President Bola Tinubu’s leadership has brought about strong collaboration among the security agencies,” he said.

When asked whether describing his earlier comments as “baseless” meant they were lies, Bwala rejected the suggestion.

“They are not lies. They are baseless. They are no longer important for the conversation,” he stated.

Bwala also accused the programme’s anchor of focusing excessively on opposition narratives while ignoring similar political shifts involving opposition figures.

According to him, Labour Party leader Peter Obi had changed political parties multiple times, yet such issues rarely received the same level of scrutiny.

He maintained that public attention should shift away from his past criticisms and instead focus on the Tinubu administration’s policies and efforts to address the country’s challenges.
