Kenneth Okonkwo: APC Won 2015 Election Through Propaganda, Jonathan Chose Peace

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) relied heavily on propaganda to secure victory in the 2015 presidential election.
In a post on his 𝕏 account, Okonkwo claimed that the APC’s campaign against former President Goodluck Jonathan was driven by sustained public criticism and negative messaging. According to him, Jonathan was repeatedly portrayed as “clueless, corrupt, insensitive and incompetent,” while his administration was blamed for insecurity in the North-East and the removal of fuel subsidy.
Okonkwo further alleged that former Information Minister Lai Mohammed played a central role in the APC’s media campaign during the election period. He argued that the persistent attacks significantly influenced public perception and contributed to Jonathan’s defeat at the polls.
Despite the intense criticism, Okonkwo praised Jonathan for upholding democratic values, noting that he did not use the machinery of government to suppress the opposition or persecute political opponents. He also highlighted Jonathan’s famous statement that “no politician’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian” and commended the former President for conceding defeat and congratulating Muhammadu Buhari before the official declaration of the election results.
The comments reflect Kenneth Okonkwo’s personal views and allegations regarding the 2015 election. They remain part of ongoing political debate over the factors that influenced the outcome of that election.
