Alleged Presidential Agency Scandal Raises Fresh Questions, May Shape 2027 Political Debate
By TrackNews Online
Fresh concerns have emerged over the controversy surrounding the alleged operations of a body identified as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), with critics calling for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding its existence and activities.
The controversy, which has drawn public attention, involves the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, and Adeyemi Adeniyi Mathew, who reportedly claimed to be the Director-General of the council.
Questions have continued to trail how the alleged agency reportedly operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat, maintained accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Treasury Single Account (TSA), hosted senior government officials, engaged with top public office holders, and allegedly recruited hundreds of staff members.
Analysts argue that the government owes Nigerians a detailed explanation regarding the legal status, funding, and operational structure of the council, particularly amid claims that it appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

Political observers say the controversy could become a major issue ahead of the 2027 general elections if not transparently addressed. They stress that restoring public confidence would require an independent investigation and clear accountability for any individuals found to have acted outside the law.
While the Presidency has issued a response through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, some commentators maintain that the explanation has not fully addressed the questions being raised, leaving room for continued public debate.
Observers have therefore urged the Federal Government to provide greater clarity on the matter, emphasizing that transparency and accountability remain essential to strengthening public trust in governance.
