Why EFCC Came After Me – Saraki

A former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has alleged that the cases instituted against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were based on a political witch hunt.

NEWSNGR reports that according to Saraki, the refusal of the Senate under his leadership to confirm an acting EFCC Chairman who came for screening before the lawmakers caused his ordeal with the anti-graft agency.

He explained that the Senate did not confirm the acting chairman because he didn’t meet the qualifications, and the security report didn’t clear him.

Saraki, however, said the affected person defiantly remained in office, and some of them, including himself, had to pay the personal cost and were hunted for rejecting his nomination.

“We had the acting chairman of EFCC come before us. “After reviewing his qualifications and security report, we said no. But he stayed in office. Defiant. Totally disregarded our rejection.

“And some of us paid a personal cost for that. We were hunted, just because of that,” Saraki said during an interview with Vanguard.

Meanwhile, the EFCC is set to probe Human Rights activist Deji Adeyanju and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, over claims linked to terror financing, illegal funding channels, and other possible security issues.

The move follows a petition submitted by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere, who asked the commission to investigate how the two figures raise and use money for their public activities.

According to The Guardian, he called for checks on their sponsorships, advocacy drives, media work, protests, and legal actions.

In the petition dated June 17, 2026, he asked the EFCC to examine whether the funds behind their activities come from legal and clear sources.

The lawyer also raised concerns about compliance with tax rules, financial reporting, and other regulations tied to their operations.
