Rufai Knocks Onanuga Over Attack On Peter Obi
Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, over his response to Peter Obi’s call for the President to resign.
NEWSNGR had earlier reported that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate had on Monday urged Tinubu to emulate the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, by resigning over the country’s economic and security challenges.
According to him, the developments that led to Starmer’s resignation are similar to those Nigerians are experiencing under President Tinubu; hence, the expected outcome is that Tinubu will resign from office.
Reacting, Onanuga described Obi’s position as puerile and accused the former Anambra State governor of being childish.
Onanuga said there is no basis for comparison between the two countries’ events.
The presidential spokesperson insisted that Tinubu is popular with Nigerians, adding that the President was elected for a fixed four-year term, unlike the UK’s parliamentary system.
But speaking during a morning programme on Tuesday, Rufai faulted the Presidency’s response, recalling that the All Progressives Congress (APC) once called for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation before taking power in 2015.
He said, “Was the APC also childish when it called for the resignation of Goodluck Jonathan? What they said Jonathan should resign for has happened under them too.
“This was the same APC that called for a parallel government if they didn’t win the 2015 election. Do you know what parallel government is? That’s anarchy.
“They didn’t only say it, they went to defend it on television. So Obi called for resignation, and they said it is puerile.”
