Otti, Dignitaries Pay Tribute to Alex Ekubo at Final Farewell in Abia
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, alongside prominent Nigerians, on Thursday paid glowing tributes to Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo during his funeral ceremony in Abia State.
Speaking at the funeral service held at the Mary Slessor Technical College Ground in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Otti described the late actor’s passing as a significant loss to Abia State, Nigeria’s entertainment industry, and his numerous admirers across the world.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba, the governor said Ekubo was much more than an entertainer, noting that he served as a cultural ambassador who showcased the rich heritage of Abia State and Nigeria on the global stage.
According to Otti, the actor’s life reflected resilience, creativity, discipline, and excellence, qualities that made him an inspiration to many young people.
“Alex had a unique ability to connect with people through his performances. He brought joy to countless homes, inspired the youth, and demonstrated that dedication and hard work can lead to greatness,” the governor said.
He added that Ekubo remained proud of his roots and consistently identified with his home state despite his success in the entertainment industry.
The governor further noted that although the actor’s death has left a void in the Nigerian creative sector, his achievements and legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
Otti also urged the bereaved family, the people of Arochukwu, and members of the entertainment industry to find strength and comfort in God during the difficult period.
Delivering a sermon titled, “Please Forgive God,” the Resident Pastor of Streams of Joy International, Umuahia, Eno Jerry-Eze, reminded mourners that nothing happens outside God’s knowledge and purpose. He encouraged everyone to live responsibly and remain mindful of the day they would give account of their lives before God.
In an emotional tribute, Ekubo’s elder sister, Kelechi Ekubo-Otusi, described him as a humble, caring, loving, and God-fearing man who dedicated his life to serving both God and humanity.
The late actor passed away in May at the age of 40 following complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and other family members.
The funeral attracted government officials, Nollywood stars, friends, and sympathisers from across the country, all gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the beloved actor.
