Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his conduct during the May APC primary in Surulere Constituency I.

In a video making the rounds on social media, Elliot is seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness while asking to be welcomed back into the party’s fold in Lagos.

“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future, Ema binu baba,” Elliot said.

Gbajabiamila responded by asking the lawmaker to stand up.

The apology comes months after Elliot fell out with APC leadership over the Surulere Constituency I primary. He withdrew from the exercise at the time, claiming his supporters were intimidated and subjected to political pressure. He later rejected the result and said he would challenge it through the party’s internal appeal process.

Elliot ultimately lost the ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was widely seen as Gbajabiamila’s preferred candidate. Odunuga-Bakare polled 11,385 votes against Elliot’s 270.
