Woman gives birth inside Lagos Danfo bus during journey

Passengers aboard a commercial bus, popularly known as Danfo in Lagos, were left astonished after a pregnant woman went into labour during a journey and delivered a baby boy inside the vehicle.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, disclosed that the woman was travelling across the state when she suddenly went into labour.
According to the agency, fellow passengers and other people at the scene quickly rallied around her, assisting with the delivery while some offered prayers for the safe arrival of the baby.
The woman successfully delivered a boy, with medical responders and commuters subsequently providing assistance to ensure the safety of both mother and child.
Footage of the incident circulating on social media showed moments surrounding the delivery, with some witnesses suggesting that the newborn be named Abiona, a Yoruba name commonly given to a child born during a journey or on the road.
The incident comes after a similar occurrence was recorded at Onipanu Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road, where a pregnant woman also delivered a baby boy before being taken to a medical facility.
In a separate account of the earlier incident, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders arrived promptly after receiving information about a pregnant woman who went into labour while waiting for transportation.
“In a swift response, LASEMA arrived at the scene to assist a pregnant woman who went into sudden labour while waiting for transport.
“The woman delivered a healthy baby boy. Both mother and child were stabilised by LASEMA paramedics before being transported to a nearby healthcare facility for post-natal care,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
