Nasarawa police arrest two over murder of 50-year-old man, recover decomposed body from well in Karu

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel.
According to Nansel, the incident was reported on November 3 by the victim’s younger sister, Jennifer Alain, 46, of Mpape, Abuja, after she became concerned over her brother’s prolonged absence and inability to reach him.
Further findings indicated that the victim had reportedly been missing since October 22, 2026. During this period, the suspect allegedly took possession of his mobile phone and misled callers by claiming that the deceased, whom he described as his father, had travelled to England.
The police also alleged that the suspect disposed of the victim’s personal belongings, domestic animals and other properties. He reportedly confessed to selling some scrap metals and industrial engines belonging to the deceased for ₦3.4 million.
During interrogation, Yusuf Musa allegedly admitted involvement in the killing and directed detectives to a dry well within the victim’s residence, where the body had reportedly been concealed.
Acting on the information, detectives, working alongside environmental services personnel, visited the location and recovered the decomposed remains from the well.
According to the PPRO, preliminary findings suggested that the victim was allegedly killed inside his residence before his body was dumped in the well and set ablaze.
The suspects reportedly sealed the well with blocks in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The recovered remains were subsequently evacuated to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where a medical doctor examined and certified the victim dead.
The Command further disclosed that investigations led to the identification of another suspect and the arrest of another person allegedly involved in receiving the stolen property.
The two principal suspects currently in custody were identified as Yusuf Musa, 23, and Victor Zamani, 32.
However, a third suspect allegedly connected to the crime remains at large, with the police saying efforts have been intensified to locate and apprehend him.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution.
The Commissioner commended the detectives for their prompt response and professionalism in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the victim’s disappearance and the eventual recovery of his remains.
He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that those found culpable of criminal activities are brought to justice, irrespective of their status or circumstances.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station, while encouraging members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and investigating criminal activities.
The Command assured the public that investigations remain ongoing and that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend other suspects connected with the incident and ensure they face the law.
