The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected thug, Umar Usman, popularly known as Ta’ambo, over alleged involvement in thuggery and mobile phone robberies in Rimin Kebe and surrounding areas.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
He said police surveillance operatives attached to Zango Police Division arrested the suspect at about 8:40 pm on Thursday following credible intelligence and weeks of monitoring.
According to the statement, Ta’ambo, who lives in Rimin Kebe, allegedly coordinated thuggery activities and phone robberies in Rimin Kebe, Ramin Research Area and around Galula Hospital.
The police said his alleged activities included attacking and intimidating residents, snatching mobile phones and other valuables, as well as injuring security personnel in the area.
The command said the suspect had been declared wanted following several complaints and intelligence reports linking him to the alleged crimes.
His arrest has been welcomed by residents and community leaders, who described it as a major breakthrough and expressed hope that it would end thuggery in the affected areas.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing discreet investigation. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of his gang, recover stolen items and arms used in the commission of the crimes, and establish his involvement in other reported cases. Upon completion of investigation, he will be charged to court,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers of Zango Police Division for their professionalism and timely action.
He also appreciated members of the public for providing useful information and supporting the police.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling thuggery, phone snatching, attacks on security personnel and other violent crimes across Kano State.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
