2027: ADC Urges Nigerians to Emulate Americans, Vote Against APC Over Economic Hardship

Opposition party says ballot remains the strongest tool for accountability, calls on Nigerians to demand political change.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Nigerians to emulate American voters by using their votes to hold the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) accountable for its policies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the call in a statement on Wednesday while reacting to the outcome of the United States midterm elections.
According to the ADC, the American election outcome offers an important lesson in democratic accountability, particularly the power of voters to challenge political leaders whose policies they believe have negatively affected their living conditions.
The party maintained that electoral decisions should be driven by citizens’ welfare rather than political loyalty, sentiments or personal attachment to politicians.
The ADC accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of worsening economic hardship and insecurity, insisting that Nigerians must use the ballot box to demand better governance.
It argued that citizens cannot continue to complain about rising living costs and insecurity while returning the same political leadership to power.
The opposition party therefore called on Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 elections and use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to pursue what it described as a change of government.
The ADC also presented itself and its candidates as an alternative to the APC-led administration, promising to prioritise economic affordability, security and job creation.
It stressed that the 2027 elections would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to make their voices heard through the democratic process.
The party’s statement followed the reported gains made by Democrats in the United States midterm elections, which strengthened their ability to scrutinise President Donald Trump’s administration and influence its legislative agenda.
The ADC urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the American experience, maintaining that electoral power remains one of the most effective instruments citizens can use to demand accountability from those in government.
