UK Warns Citizens Against Travelling To Nigerian States

The United Kingdom has warned its citizens against travelling to several states in Nigeria over security concerns, while advising that journeys to other parts of the country should be undertaken only when absolutely necessary.
The travel advisory was issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which identified several states across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-East and South-South regions as areas where security risks could affect travellers.
According to the advisory, British nationals were urged to avoid all travel to some states, while travel to other locations was restricted to essential journeys only.
In the North-East, the UK government advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states. Bauchi State, however, was placed under the category of essential travel only.
In the North-West, the FCDO warned British citizens against all travel to Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states, citing security concerns in the affected areas.
Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi and Jigawa states were classified as destinations where only essential travel should be considered.
The advisory also covered several states in the North-Central region. Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Benue and Kwara states were listed among the locations where British nationals were advised to undertake only essential journeys.
In the South-South, the UK government issued a specific warning concerning riverine communities in Rivers, Delta and Cross River states that can only be accessed by boat. British citizens were advised against travelling to these areas.
Meanwhile, non-riverine areas of Rivers, Delta and Cross River states were classified under the essential-travel-only category.
In the South-East, Abia, Anambra and Imo states were also placed under the same restriction, meaning British nationals were advised to travel to these locations only when necessary.
The advisory highlights the different levels of security risks identified by the UK government across parts of Nigeria. It urges British citizens to carefully assess the situation in their intended destinations before making travel arrangements.
The FCDO regularly reviews its travel advice to help British nationals make informed decisions about visiting foreign countries, particularly areas where insecurity could pose a threat to their safety.
The latest warning serves as a reminder to travellers to check official travel guidance before embarking on journeys to the affected states.
British citizens planning to visit Nigeria are encouraged to consult the UK government’s official travel advice for the latest security updates and specific recommendations for their intended destinations.
