Lagos Lawyer Demands ₦25m Compensation From MTN Over Mast Damage

A Lagos property owner and cleric, Pastor Sunday Enikuomehin, has demanded ₦25 million in compensation from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc over alleged damage to his house caused by a nearby telecommunications mast.
Enikuomehin, through his lawyers, has issued the telecommunications company a 14-day ultimatum to address the alleged damage, repair the affected property and resolve safety concerns linked to the mast.
In a formal demand letter dated October 20, 2026, his legal representatives, Benson Enikuomehin & Co., accused MTN of negligence over the installation and maintenance of the structure.
According to the lawyers, the mast was erected in 2010 close to their client’s property at No. 1 and 3, Maja Street, Eyita, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The law firm alleged that the structure had repeatedly dropped hard substances and pieces of equipment onto the roof of the building over the years, resulting in significant damage.
The lawyers claimed that the falling objects had damaged the roof, causing water to leak into the building whenever it rained. They added that the occupants had continued to live with concerns about their safety because of the alleged incidents.
The legal representatives further alleged that several complaints were made to MTN through security personnel stationed at the facility, but the company’s management failed to take appropriate action.
In the letter signed by Amenawon Addo, the Head of Chambers, the lawyers maintained that MTN had a responsibility to ensure that its telecommunications infrastructure was properly designed, installed, inspected and maintained to prevent harm to nearby residents and properties.
They argued that the alleged failure to address the problem had caused considerable damage to their client’s property and subjected the occupants to prolonged distress and fear.
The demand includes the immediate repair of the damaged roof, measures to prevent further objects from falling from the mast, and payment of ₦25 million as compensation.
The lawyers said the compensation would cover the cost of property repairs as well as the pain, anxiety and apprehension allegedly suffered by the occupants over the years.
They warned that the telecommunications company would face legal action if it failed to resolve the matter within 14 days of the demand.
The firm also threatened to report the matter to the relevant federal telecommunications regulatory authorities if MTN did not comply with the demands.
As of the information contained in the demand letter, the allegations against MTN remained claims made by the property owner and his legal representatives. No response from MTN Nigeria was included in the report.
The outcome of the dispute will depend on the parties’ response and any subsequent legal or regulatory proceedings.
