Ignore Social Media, Nigerians Will Re-Elect Tinubu In 2027 – Information Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to disregard reports on social media and criticism from opposition parties, insisting that Nigerians love President Bola Tinubu and will vote for him for a second term in 2027.
Idris made the statement on Saturday at the APC presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna State, where he expressed confidence in Tinubu’s popularity and the level of public support for his administration’s policies.
The minister described the turnout at the rally as evidence of the president’s acceptance among Nigerians, particularly those who believe in the government’s reform agenda.
However, the size of the crowd at the event has generated controversy, with some social media users and opposition figures questioning the pictures circulated by the APC.
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was among those who accused the ruling party of sharing artificial intelligence-generated images that allegedly exaggerated the number of people at the rally held at Ranchers Bees Stadium, which has a reported capacity of about 5,000 spectators.
Following the circulation of the pictures, some Nigerians on social media reportedly identified the original images and criticised the APC over what they described as misleading representations of the crowd.
Reacting to the criticism, Idris urged Nigerians and party members not to be distracted by social media discussions or comments from opposition politicians.
“We have always been saying this: forget about all the social media news, forget about all the talk from the opposition. Asiwaju is loved by Nigerians,” the minister said.
He described Kaduna as an important location for the campaign launch, citing the city’s historical significance as the former capital of Northern Nigeria.
According to Idris, the presence of supporters from different political backgrounds at the rally showed that Nigerians were willing to unite behind Tinubu and his administration’s reform agenda.
He maintained that Nigerians were beginning to recognise the potential benefits of the government’s policies, expressing optimism that the reforms would eventually improve the country’s economic situation.
The minister acknowledged that Nigerians were facing economic difficulties but insisted that the country was moving towards better conditions.
“There may be challenges at this moment, but we are moving away from that. We are consolidating on progress, and Nigeria is going to be better for it,” he said.
Idris added that the Tinubu administration remained committed to economic growth, improved living standards and sustainable national development.
He described the atmosphere at the rally as encouraging for the president’s re-election campaign, stating that the administration’s policies were designed to create prosperity and expand development opportunities for Nigerians.
“We are excited; everybody is excited. All of us are moving in the direction of progress, in the direction of prosperity, like the President has promised every Nigerian,” he added.
The information minister also challenged opposition parties to demonstrate their level of public support, arguing that the rally reflected enthusiasm for Tinubu’s leadership.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect the president in 2027, saying a second term would allow the administration to consolidate its ongoing reforms and pursue its promise of national prosperity.
“Nigeria will vote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second time, and Nigeria is going to march towards the prosperity that the president has promised all Nigerians,” Idris declared.
Alake expresses confidence in Tinubu’s re-election
Also speaking at the rally, the spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, described the gathering as an encouraging moment for the ruling party.
Alake said the enthusiasm displayed by supporters was an indication of the level of mobilisation and backing the APC expects to receive ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“It is a very excited moment for most of us here. And I see the crowd here, lively. That is a pointer to what will happen in the next election,” he said.
The minister expressed confidence that Nigerians would support Tinubu’s bid for a second term, describing him as a leader with the experience and determination to move the country forward.
According to Alake, the president had demonstrated courage and vision by implementing difficult policies intended to address Nigeria’s longstanding economic challenges.
He argued that the reforms were necessary to reposition the country for sustainable development and establish a stronger foundation for future prosperity.
Alake maintained that Tinubu’s commitment to the reforms reflected his determination to leave a lasting legacy and put Nigeria on the path to economic recovery.
“Now, it is the season for prosperity. Nigerians are beginning to see the results of those reforms, and they have been trickling in, and they will continue to trickle in,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the benefits of the government’s policies would become more evident over time, adding that the rally offered APC supporters an opportunity to unite behind the president’s vision for the country.
The ministers’ comments come as political parties intensify their mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the APC expressing confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing another term in office.
