Billionaire businesswoman Folorunso Alakija has threatened to take legal action over a report claiming she is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud and money laundering.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Alakija described the publication as false and defamatory, and demanded that it be removed from all platforms immediately.

The report, published on Wednesday, October 21, by Secret Reporters, alleged that the EFCC was probing Famfa Oil Limited, a company linked to Alakija, over suspected financial irregularities. These included a $1.27 million fraud, undeclared foreign transfers, altered documents and money laundering.

The publication said it based its claims on court documents from a legal dispute between Famfa Oil Limited and the anti-graft agency.

Responding, Alakija shared a screenshot of the report stamped with the word “DISCLAIMER” in bold letters. She warned that her legal team would take appropriate action against anyone who failed to comply with her demand.

“All false and defamatory publications concerning this news must be immediately removed, deleted, and depublicised from all platforms,” she wrote.

“Failure to comply with this notice will leave our legal team with no alternative but to pursue appropriate legal actions.”

Alakija, who built her wealth through fashion and oil investments, is the vice-chairman of Famfa Oil Limited. She is also the founder of the Rose of Sharon Foundation, which supports widows and orphans.

The allegations remain disputed, and the report does not establish any finding of wrongdoing against her.
