Bauchi man arrested for allegedly stabbing colleague to death over car wash proceeds

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Sallau Inuwa, popularly known as Liman Katagum, for allegedly stabbing his colleague, Ibrahim, 45, to death following an argument over money generated from a car wash business.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at a car wash in Bauchi metropolis, where both men reportedly disagreed over the price charged for washing a vehicle.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the disagreement escalated when the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Ibrahim several times.
“Regrettably, despite efforts to save him, Ibrahim was confirmed dead at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi,” the statement said.
The police said operatives attached to the A Division in Bauchi immediately launched an investigation after receiving a report of the incident.
Preliminary findings reportedly indicated that the suspect had fled to his paternal home in the Liman Katagum area following the stabbing.
The police subsequently alerted the Divisional Police Officer in Liman Katagum, leading to a coordinated operation that resulted in the suspect’s arrest at Mararraban Liman Katagum.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu expressed concern over the incident, describing it as a tragic loss of life arising from a disagreement over money.
“The CP, while condoling with the family of the deceased, urges members of the public to manage their anger and resolve disputes through dialogue and other lawful means rather than resorting to violence,” the statement added.
Aliyu further stressed that provocation could not justify taking another person’s life.
“He reiterates that no matter the level of provocation, taking a life can never be justified,” the police spokesperson said.
The suspect is currently in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi, where investigations are ongoing ahead of his prosecution.
