Troops Foil Terrorists’ Attack in Kaduna, Rescue Three Kidnapped Victims in Zamfara

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have foiled a terrorist attack in Kaduna State and rescued three kidnapped victims in Zamfara State during separate operations.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Friday, the task force said the operations were conducted on September 10 and 11, 2026.

The statement said troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call over terrorist activities at Unguwan Gardago Village in Kaduna North Local Government Area on September 10.

According to the statement, the terrorists had robbed residents of motorcycles and mobile phones before abducting a civilian and forcing him to guide them as they fled the community.

The troops subsequently mounted an ambush along the terrorists’ withdrawal route and engaged them, forcing them to flee and abandon the motorcycles and other items looted from residents.

During an exploitation operation after the encounter, the troops recovered three motorcycles, one PKT machine gun working mechanism and components of a pump-action firearm, among other items.

The task force, however, said the abducted civilian was killed by the terrorists during the incident.

“Unfortunately, the abducted civilian was killed by the terrorists, and his body was subsequently recovered and handed over to his relatives.”

Meanwhile, troops of Sector 2 on September 11 observed terrorists attacking a Canter vehicle along the Anka–Gummi Road in Zamfara State.

The troops responded swiftly and made contact with the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee the area.

The operation led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims, while the troops also recovered terrorist communication equipment.

The Joint Task Force commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.

The task force said the Theatre Command remained committed to protecting lives and property while disrupting terrorist networks and denying them freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
