Tinubu, Macron reaffirm Nigeria-France partnership during Paris meeting

President Bola Tinubu has met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening relations between Nigeria and France.
Macron hosted Tinubu to a private dinner at the Élysée Palace on Thursday night, in what the Presidency described as another high-level engagement aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The development was disclosed on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a post on his verified X account.
Onanuga said the meeting reflected the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and France and the two countries’ shared interest in expanding bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place as Tinubu continued the second phase of his three-week annual leave in Europe. The President arrived in Paris on Sunday after spending the first part of his holiday in London.
He was received in France by Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Ayodele Oke.
The Presidency had previously described Tinubu’s three-week break as a working vacation and said he would return to Nigeria at the end of the period.
Thursday’s meeting adds to the series of engagements between Tinubu and Macron as Nigeria and France continue to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, security, energy, innovation, culture and the creative industry.
Tinubu had previously met with Macron during his visit to Paris in June 2023 for the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.
The latest engagement highlights the continued diplomatic contacts between Abuja and Paris as both countries work to expand their strategic partnership.
