President Bola Tinubu has met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, in a fresh display of the growing diplomatic ties between Nigeria and France.

Pictures shared on the official X account of the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, show President Macron receiving the Nigerian leader for a private dinner on Thursday night.

The meeting comes as President Tinubu continues his three-week holiday in France, but once again places diplomacy on the President’s itinerary.

Although no formal statement has been issued on the substance of their discussions, the high-level engagement signals continued efforts by both leaders to deepen cooperation between Abuja and Paris.

Nigeria and France have in recent years expanded engagement in trade, investment, energy, security and infrastructure, with Paris seeking stronger strategic partnerships in Africa.

President Tinubu’s reception at the Élysée Palace—despite being on a private visit—also underlines the personal relationship between both leaders and France’s growing interest in Nigeria as a key political and economic partner on the continent.

Attention will now turn to whether the private dinner produces concrete economic or diplomatic outcomes for Nigeria.
