Suspected robbers kill warehouse gateman, steal motorcycles in Jalingo

A warehouse gateman has been killed after suspected robbers invaded a warehouse in Zangon Noma, behind Alhaji Yaro’s Office (AYA), near FastTrack Hotel in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the warehouse premises, where the assailants reportedly gained access to the facility and made away with motorcycles stored inside after attacking the security guard.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was reportedly on duty at the warehouse when the suspected robbers struck.

Sources said the assailants fled the scene after allegedly killing the gateman and carting away an unspecified number of motorcycles from the facility.

The development has caused concern among residents and business operators in the Zangon Noma area, particularly over the safety of commercial facilities and properties in the neighbourhood.

Following the incident, the Nigeria Police recovered the victim’s remains and deposited the body at a mortuary, while efforts were commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The police also launched an investigation aimed at identifying the perpetrators, tracing their whereabouts and recovering the stolen motorcycles.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, said the command was aware of the attack and was already working to track down those responsible.

“We are aware of the incident and efforts are on the way to track and arrest those involved,” Mshelizah said.

The police spokesperson did not provide further details on the number of motorcycles stolen or disclose whether any suspect had been arrested as of the time of filing this report.

The circumstances leading to the death of the gateman, including the manner in which the assailants gained access to the warehouse, were also not immediately established.

Residents in the area who spoke with DAILY POST expressed concern over the incident, as the killing adds to security worries among people operating businesses and facilities in parts of Jalingo metropolis.

The police also appealed for relevant information that could assist investigators in identifying and locating those behind the attack.
