Police Recover Illicit Drugs, Arrest Suspects in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered 5,916 assorted illicit drugs and five blocks of cannabis-related substances during coordinated raids across the state.

The operations were carried out in several divisional police areas, including Kazaure, Gumel, Miga, Dutse, Sundimina, Taura, Babura, Ringim, Sara and Aujara, the Command said in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam.

According to the statement, the raids were part of the Command’s efforts to tackle the illicit drug trade and activities capable of threatening public safety.

The recovered substances included Exol, Tramadol, D5, Diazepam, Taramol, Rubber Solution, Pregabalin, cannabis and other assorted illicit drugs.

“The Command recently conducted coordinated and intelligence-driven raids across all Divisional Police areas,” the statement said.

The operations also led to the arrest of seven suspected drug dealers identified as Yahaya Ibrahim, 35; Adamu Ya’u, 33; Musa Musa, also known as Alili Boss, 22; Sani Kabiru, 35; Hashimu Haladu, 40; Mustapha Kabiru, 22; and Sani Harisu, 25.

The suspects were subjected to preliminary investigation and later charged before the appropriate courts for prosecution, the Police said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the officers involved in the operations for their “diligence, courage, and commitment to combating the menace of illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state.”

Murtala said the Command would sustain its efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

He reiterated that the Police would continue to adopt “intelligence-led policing, proactive operations, and strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies” in tackling the menace.

The Commissioner also warned individuals and groups involved in illicit drug activities that the Command “would not relent in bringing them to justice.”

He urged parents, community leaders, religious leaders, youths and other members of the public to support the Police by providing credible information on suspected drug dealers and other criminal activities in their communities.
