The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, Taye Kasali, over the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali.
The police command also disclosed that it recovered the remains of his mother from a shallow grave on a family farm.
The command disclosed this in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the statement, “the incident came to the attention of the police on September 1, following a report that Kudirat and her son were missing.”
The police said operatives attached to the Bode-Osi Division immediately commenced an investigation into the disappearance.
The command said an intelligence-led investigation subsequently led to the arrest of Taye on September 7 in connection with the alleged crime.
It stated that the suspect was interrogated and allegedly confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026.
According to the police, “Taye claimed that his mother had been referring to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family farmland.
“The suspect reportedly described the farmland as the family’s major source of livelihood.
“He killed his mother by slitting her throat with a machete before burying her body in a shallow grave on the farm.
“Following the alleged confession, Taye led investigators to the location where the shallow grave was found and the remains of the deceased were recovered.”
The command also said the machete allegedly used in the killing was recovered and retained as an exhibit as the investigation continues.
CP Ibrahim Zungura directed that the suspect be thoroughly investigated and charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
He also assured the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
