A man from Assin Fosu is reportedly being held by a group of individuals demanding repayment of GH₵49,000 he is alleged to have scammed from a victim through a mobile money-related scheme, in a case that has now been brought to the attention of the police.

According to the account circulating online, the alleged victim of the scam devised a plan days after losing the money, enlisting a woman to reach out to the suspect and gradually build what appeared to be a romantic connection with him over WhatsApp.

The relationship reportedly progressed to the point where the two arranged to meet in person.

However, when the man arrived for what he believed was a romantic rendezvous, he was instead met by a group of men who accompanied the woman to the meeting point and took him away.

The group is now said to be demanding he repay the alleged stolen funds before agreeing to release him.

In the course of the ordeal, the man has reportedly named several individuals he knows in connection with efforts to raise the money needed to secure his release, though it remains unclear how much progress has been made toward meeting the group’s demands.

Police have since become involved in the matter, and there is hope within the community that the situation will be resolved peacefully without further escalation.
